Miami Dolphins – DT Christian Wilkins

The Miami Dolphins drafted a player with similar traits to players Brian Flores coached in the past with New England. Christian Wilkins is an ideal three-technique who excels at slipping past blockers. He’s an energetic player with a quick first step and closing speed. He’s perfect for a one-gap scheme where he can make plays at the line.

On passing downs, he can beat his man in different ways. He’s extremely flexible with the ability to bend if he were assigned to play the five-technique. With the Dolphins looking to employ a hybrid scheme, Wilkins is a tackle who could end up with a bunch of sacks and tackles for loss.

Minnesota Vikings – TE Irv Smith Jr.

Despite Kyle Rudolph having a career year, the Vikings opted to take Irv Smith Jr. He’s a little undersized for the position but he plays big. Smith works the middle of the field like a veteran. He understands where the cushion is in the zone, making him an easy target. On drag routes, he creates separation and when asked he can exploit the seam.

In the Vikings offense in two-tight end sets, Smith gives Kirk Cousin another target on early downs. He brings grit with his tenacity after the catch. Once has the ball in his hands, he looks to punish defenders. As the season wears on, Smith will prove is worth for the Vikings.
