The Green Bay Packers hope to get back in playoff contention as they start the NFL preseason facing the Houston Texans. Here’s how fans can watch.
While the Houston Texans were division-winners that went to the playoffs last year, it might be a bit surprising to say that the Green Bay Packers were watching the postseason at home. Entering the 2019 NFL season, though, they both hope to be playing at the end of the year. To get there, though, they first have to get through the preseason, which begins with matchup between these two teams on Thursday night.
It’s hard to say whether or not Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers will see the field much at all for the Texans and Packers. Of course, it’s the preseason and, in the first week, it’s hard to say that playing at all would matter much to either player and their chances at making it to the playoffs in 2019. Having said that, this game will offer a look at some other players that could have a big impact on this year.
For the Packers, rookies Rashan Gary and Darnell Savage should make their debuts in this one, looking to help bolster a revamped defense. Furthermore, young wide receivers Jake Kumerow and Equanimeous St. Brown are looking to establish their roles with Rodgers throwing them the ball.
In the case of the Texans, the big looks will be on the offensive line, particularly with Tytus Howard. Watson’s protection last year was abysmal so Houston added new faces. However, Howard is highly inexperienced, so it’ll be interesting to see where he’s at with his game and how he fares against Green Bay’s defense.
