The Chicago Bears opened their 2019 preseason schedule at home against the Carolina Panthers. We go over takeaways from that game.

Finally, Chicago Bears football is back! Everyone involved is happy. The players get to see players other than their teammates, the coaches get to finally make moves that count (kind of), and the fans watch their favorite team play (even though the starters played for only about a minute).

The Bears hosted the Carolina Panthers in their 2019 preseason opener. They got all the cobwebs out and got some meaningful plays in. Chicago lost, 23-13, but the score is the least of anyone’s concern. The important thing in preseason games, especially in the opener, is how certain players execute and making sure that everyone comes out injury-free.

Well, even though the Bears didn’t win, there were some players who did execute well and they came out relatively unscathed.

The Bears wanted to see how some of their prized rookies played when the lights were (semi) flashed. In addition, there are some players fighting for a backup spot and they got a long look since the starters didn’t play more than a series. Then, of course, there is the epic kicker competition. We got to see how they kicked during camp but we need to see how they kick in a real game situation. Did someone take the lead?

There were some interesting goings-on in this game. We’re getting a better idea of some guys we were dying to see. We also got a look at some players who might just be on the bubble. This is only the first game, though. There is still plenty of time at camp and in games to either continue to do well, continue to slide, or get off the ground and start impressing the coaches.

Here are my takeaways from the Chicago Bears’ first preseason game.
