The Cleveland Browns opened up the 2019 preseason with a dominant 30-10 win over the Redskins but who were the standout performers for Cleveland?

All the hype in the world behind them, the Cleveland Browns kicked off their 2019 preseason slate on Thursday night as they welcomed the Washington Redskins to FirstEnergy Stadium. Though it’s an exhibition matchup where the result means nothing, the result was promising for Cleveland. After 60 minutes of action, the Browns came away with a 30-10 victory.

There were a litany of highlight plays from Freddie Kitchens’ team to open the preseason, from an 86-yard punt return touchdown to a pristine first drive by the offense to a pick-six from a rookie linebacker. For a team with immense expectations coming into the 2019 season, the Browns did nothing to diminish the optimism surrounding them.

Having said that, there are always some players that made more of an impact than others. Thus, we’re going to look at five Cleveland Browns that were standouts in the preseason opener against the Redskins — but first, a look at some notes and players that didn’t make the cut.

Notable Omissions

– Greedy Williams had an up-and-down game as he made his preseason debut. The rookie cornerback got turned around early, allowing for an easy, wide-open Redskins touchdown. However, Williams settled in and got better as the game went on, including hauling in an interception.

– Myles Garrett did Myles Garrett things for the brief time he was on the field, looking like an unstoppable problem for opposing defenses.

– It wasn’t much but Nick Chubb took one carry for 12 yards and one reception for 14 yards on the night, which could be a nice palette cleanser for what he’s capable of in the 2019 season.

Now, let’s get into the real standouts from this preseason action, starting with a feel-good story making plays and a defensive lineman making his mark.
