The Dallas Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara on Saturday, Aug. 10. Here are three players to keep an eye on in their Preseason Week 1 game.

As always seems to be the case, this is a big season for the Dallas Cowboys. That seems to be the prevailing feeling each and every year for this franchise but it’s especially true in 2019.

Despite winning the NFC East two out of the last three seasons, Dallas has been unable to make any real noise in the postseason. They did finally notch a win as they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round but then dropped the following game to the Los Angeles Rams.

Now the Cowboys enter this season with a head coach on the final year of his contract, hoping that will motivate him enough to finally get the team deeper into the playoffs. In addition to Jason Garrett trying to earn some security, Dallas also has three of their best players wanting new contracts as well.

Quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver Amari Cooper are entering their final season under contract and are looking for extensions. The team hasn’t seemed as urgent and both will be on the field trying to raise their asking price.

The third player seeking a new deal is running back Ezekiel Elliott, who is sitting out of camp and threatening to hold out the entire year — despite having two seasons left on his rookie deal.

With the stakes high, Dallas rides into the preseason looking to put the off-field talk in the rearview and make some waves on the field. The first week will likely be all about knocking the rust off, but there are still some players to keep a close eye on, with these three being the main ones to watch.
