The Green Bay Packers defeated the Houston Texans by a final score of 28-26 in Preseason Week 1. Here are three players who impressed in the win.

Heading into the 2019 Preseason, the Green Bay Packers had a ton of buzz around the defense, and rightfully so. After a purge of several known commodities, namely Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, Green Bay’s defense had an entirely new look in Thursday’s preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Granted, hardly any of the Packers’ projected regular season starters suited up. But that doesn’t mean others didn’t step up to the challenge.

Led by defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, the Packers defense was all over the field against Houston, racking up two turnovers in the first quarter alone. It was a similar story on special teams when second-year receiver Equanimeous St. Brown recovered a fumble on a muffed punt for the game’s opening score late in the first quarter.

In total, the Packers forced four turnovers, with three coming in the first half. It was a sloppy game overall, which was to be expected being that it was each team’s first preseason game. Green Bay’s offense had moments of brilliance, as well, but we can’t judge their scheme too much due to the fact head coach Matt LaFleur likely wasn’t going to reveal too much of his actual offense before the real season started.

In fact, when watching preseason games, it’s more important to focus on individual players rather than the whole team. Coaches won’t reveal too much of their schemes — offensively or defensively — which makes it even harder for some players to stand out. That’s why when players do  stand out, it’s notable.

Overall, the Packers didn’t have any game-breaking performances from any one player on Thursday night, but there were several players who impressed. So, with that said, here are five standout players from Preseason Week 1.
