1. Teddy Bridgewater, QB

Many fans thought Teddy Bridgewater would sign somewhere else in the NFL this offseason as he hit free agency. There were quarterback-needy teams throughout the league and Bridgewater showcased that he was back to health and still effective when on the field for the Saints last season. Instead, he elected to stay in New Orleans and try to earn the job of Drew Brees’ heir.

It might just be another preseason game but Bridgewater again made his case that he’s ready to take over the Saints offense whenever Brees decides to hang it up — or if the veteran, knock on wood, were to go down with injury.

Taking on his former team, Bridgewater diced them up throughout the night. The quarterback finished the night going 14-of-19 for 134 yards and a touchdown. He was decisive, efficient and methodical in how he continued to move the ball down the field and make things happen at the helm of the offense.

No one is going to mistake Teddy Bridgewater for Drew Brees when he lines up under center. However, the former continues to cement the fact that the Saints may have the best backup quarterback situation in the NFL at this point. They have to feel confident that, if Brees were to retire in the near future, they have a guy that can come in and win games at the head of Sean Payton‘s offense.
