NFL Power Rankings 2019: Raiders have helmet issues, Browns hype grows
By Randy Gurzi
19. Denver Broncos (20)
It was a story of the past vs. the present for the Denver Broncos this week as they had their latest young quarterback prospect on the field in Drew Lock with their past young quarterback project in Paxton Lynch against them with the Seattle Seahawks. Both those players got the majority of the work in this one as the teams were trying to get their young signal-callers some work.
Lock came into the game after Joe Flacco got things going and looked much better than he did in the Hall of Fame game the week prior. In that game, Lock managed just 34 yards through the air but this time, he was good on 17-of-28 passing for 180 yards with a score and a pick.
Denver’s offense also received a boost from second-year running back Royce Freeman, who ripped off a 50-yard run on their opening drive which ended with a field goal off the foot of Brandon McManus.
That will be the key this season for the Broncos who know their defense can get it done. The problem in recent years has been a stagnant offense which never got going under Trevor Siemian, Case Keenum, or even Lynch. If they don’t get it going on offense, you have to start wondering if general manager John Elway will begin to feel some heat.
