Matt LaFleur was the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator last season but left to take the head coaching job with the Green Bay Packers. In his place, the team hired Arthur Smith and things looked great under him in their preseason debut.

The offense scored four touchdowns, with each backup quarterback — Ryan Tannehill and Logan Woodside — getting two. There were also no turnovers in the game, which was really encouraging. Head coach Mike Vrabel was very encouraged by what he saw out of his new play-caller on Thursday.

"”For the most part, I felt the communication between him and the quarterbacks were good,” the second-year head coach said of Smith via Teresa M. Walker of The Associated Press. ”He had an idea of where he wanted to go on the next play. I tried to tell him, ‘Hey, I think we’re going to be in four-down territory, let’s have a couple of plays ready.’ So, I thought that that communication was good.”"

Tennessee remains a mystery even with the solid work by the OC. They have two quarterbacks in Tannehill and starter Marcus Mariota who struggle with durability. Their hope is adding Tannehill this season keeps them from suffering too much should they lose Mariota and that could work especially considering how good their defense and running game can be.
