11. Green Bay Packers (12)
It was the first game as head coach of the Green Bay Packers for Matt LaFleur and while he got a win, he wasn’t completely satisfied with what he saw on the field. Using primarily reserves, LaFleur was bothered by the fact that his team struggled to make tackles against the Houston Texans.
According to Zach Kruse of USA Today’s Packers Wire, Green Bay missed 24 tackles which gave up an additional 164 yards on the ground.
"“Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur revealed Saturday that his team missed two dozen tackles in the preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Thursday night. LaFleur said the 24 missed tackles resulted in an extra 164 yards for the Texans.” — Kruse, Packers Wire"
This isn’t good for any team, but for the Packers, it feels even more alarming. Their defense has been an issue for the past couple of seasons and they really hoped for that to change in 2019. The good news is they didn’t use Rashan Gary for most of the night and Za’Darius Smith took the game off.
That means that at least two of their bigger additions weren’t on the field for the struggles. Their hope is things get better when they’re at full strength. ”
