7. Indianapolis Colts (8)

One of the biggest surprises in the league last season was the turnaround the Indianapolis Colts made. They started out in a rough spot thanks to Josh McDaniels, who backed out of an agreement to coach the team. After he decided to return to the Patriots as their offensive coordinator, Indy had to go searching for a plan B.

This led to the hiring of Frank Reich as the new head coach. His start was slow as they were 1-5, which also had something to do with Andrew Luck shaking the rust off after missing all of the 2017 season with a shoulder injury. Then, they found their footing and went 9-1 in the final 10 games before winning a playoff game as well.

They didn’t show a lot in preseason Week 1 as the majority of the starters sat this one out. If they did show anything, it was that they have a deep cast of quarterbacks. Jacoby Brissett already is thought of as a good No. 2 option but they also got Chad Kelly some much-needed work as he was 13-of-19 for 121 yards but really showed out as a runner. He finished with 53 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

For the second season in a row, Indianapolis had multiple picks in the second round. They’re slowly building a powerhouse and it’s no wonder they had last year’s NFL Executive of the Year in general manager Chris Ballard.
