NFL Power Rankings 2019: Raiders have helmet issues, Browns hype grows
By Randy Gurzi
28. San Francisco 49ers (28)
2018’s offseason darling was the San Francisco 49ers. They were fresh off a 5-0 finish with newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who seemed to be the perfect fit in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He was so impressive in that stretch that the Niners gave him a five-year, $137.5 million deal which guaranteed him just under $90 million.
Since signing that deal, Garoppolo has played in just three games and was 1-2 in those games. His season ended with a torn ACL in Week 3 and the 49ers struggled mightily without him. He’s healthy now and there’s starting to be some small hype building again, especially after the signing of running back Tevin Coleman and drafting of receiver Deebo Samuel.
San Francisco also picked defensive end Nick Bosa in the draft and traded for Dee Ford. The two defensive ends were expected to finally provide them a dominate edge-rushing duo, something they have attempted to get for years.
We have to wait to see how that looks though as Bosa is dealing with an ankle injury right now. Jimmy G will also wait as he sat out their first game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night as Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard got the majority of the snaps as they fought for the backup spot.
