NFL trade rumors: 5 Players who should be traded in 2019
4. Josh Jones, S, Green Bay Packers
There’s no question that Josh Jones has flashed throughout his two seasons with the Green Bay Packers after they selected him at the end of the second round in the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s played an important role for the Packers secondary, which has been both good and bad. For every positive that the safety has shown throughout his career, he’s never been able to consistently put the whole puzzle together.
Meanwhile, Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst has completely overhauled the Packers defense this offseason. That includes two big-time additions at safety, signing Adrian Amos in free agency and trading up to select Darnell Savage Jr. with their second first-round pick in the 2019 draft. That leaves Jones on the outside of the starting 11 and he’s not happy with that.
Early in the offseason, Jones demanded a trade and, though he has yet to be dealt, the possibility that still happens remains. As such a young player, Jones could still have value somewhere else in the league and some team could come calling trying to get him on the roster for modest compensation.
Top Possible Destination: San Francisco 49ers
Right now, the secondary is the biggest concern for the 49ers defense coming into the 2019 NFL season. For a team that has high hopes for a bounce-back year, they need to find an upgrade at the position. Despite his inconsistent performance, Jones has the potential to be that player for San Francisco if the Niners can get him for the right price.
