Green Bay Packers: 3 Vital statistics for 2019 season
2
So what to make of a team that has suffered through back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the 1990 and ‘91 campaigns? Well, the Green Bay Packers are combined 13-18-1 the past two years.
In 2017, the team was minus quarterback Aaron Rodgers for nearly half the season and a drop-off in performance was certainly understandable. A year ago, this seemed to be a troubled club in many aspects on both sides of the ball. A Week 13 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals was the final straw and head coach Mike McCarthy was given the pink slip.
Just how back did things get for the Pack this past season? The team’s six victories were the fewest by the franchise since 2008, which happened to be quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ first season as a starter.
You have to go back to ’05 to find the last time the club finished with such as dismal road record (1-7 both seasons). And the Packers were a very-disappointing 1-4-1 within the NFC North this past year and were swept by the last-place Detroit Lions for the second consecutive season.
Still, with all of last season’s issues, this is a team that can certainly contend for the NFC North title. It will be interesting to see how Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur work together and if the Green Bay offense can complement a new-look defensive unit. And in case anyone is wondering, the last time this franchise posted three straight losing campaigns was 1986-88.
