2020 NFL Draft: Roberts’ preseason mock draft
By Ryan Roberts
LSU defensive back Kristian Fulton was one of the more impressive watches for me this summer. Despite the presence of Greedy Williams, Fulton was by far the best cornerback on the LSU roster last season.
There is some uncertainty at the cornerback position for the Atlanta Falcons entering 2019. Desmond Trufant has been a productive player for the Falcons over the majority of his career, but he has had trouble staying healthy consistently. On the other side, second-year pro Isaiah Oliver is going to be counted on to take the position and run with it.
Behind them, there isn’t much depth. Fulton was just too good of a player to pass up at this point, especially given a minor need.
The Dallas Cowboys tight end position was a mess during the 2018 season. The leading receiver of the group was Blake Jarwin, who posted 27 receptions for 307 yards and three touchdowns.
The production was so down that the Cowboys made a call to the announcers’ room, luring all-time great Jason Witten out of retirement. A move that can surely help the production while also saving Witten from his career as a broadcaster.
While this move may help in the short term, a long term investment is very necessary. The 2020 tight end group is shrouded in mystery, with plenty potential but not many finished products.
Stanford has had a nice recent trend at the position, putting out players like Zach Ertz, Coby Fleener, Austin Hooper, Levine Toilolo and Kaden Smith in recent memory. Again, Stanford has a high upside talent who has all the makings of the next great tight end.
Standing at 6-7 and 250 pounds, Colby Parkinson possesses the ability to win consistently in the air. He is an underrated athlete who projects well as a seam busting option. With guys like Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup occupying the outside, Parkinson will be a welcome addition for Dak Prescott to attack the middle of the field.
