2020 NFL Draft: Roberts’ preseason mock draft
By Ryan Roberts
Robby Anderson is a solid football player, but not quite the future NFL elite most New York Jets fans will try to lead you to believe. After Anderson and occasionally Quincy Enunwa, there isn’t much to get excited about at the wide receiver position.
They have their future at quarterback in Sam Darnold. Now it is time to continue to add weapons about him.
With this selection, we are going to roll a big-play threat, slot receiver and running back all in one. Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. is arguably the top playmaker at the college level. At 6-2 and 220 pounds, Shenault has the ability to line up in multiple spots for the offense. This type of versatility should be a huge selling point for the New York Jets.
With the ability to move him around, Shenault could end up being an all-around player the Jets offense has lacked for several years.
The offensive tackle position is a mess for the Carolina Panthers and has been for a long time now. Whether it’s right or left tackle, adding some blue-chip talent can go a long way toward preserving the health of star quarterback Cam Newton.
Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs has been a hot topic amongst draft pundits this offseason. The former all-state wrestler and shot put/discus thrower is an outstanding athlete who profiles well to a plus pass and run defender.
He is just starting to tap into his long term potential and may be able to translate to either side at the next level. It isn’t often this type of talent falls out of the top 10 selections. The Carolina Panthers get one of the early steals in this particular mock draft.
