1. D.K. Metcalf, WR

The big Ole Miss product was targeted four times but only made one catch for eight yards. Still, there’s a lot of hope that Metcalf will have a strong rookie season. Initially, his cutting and movement in and out of routes caused concern. However, he has excelled in training camp and is working to refine that part of his game.

Despite his low Week 1 totals, Metcalf was, “just a hair from spectacular,” according to head coach Pete Carroll. It’s true, the rookie receiver almost had an entirely different kind of outing. Smith missed Metcalf on two deep passes that the receiver just wasn’t able to haul in.

If Russell Wilson had been the one making those throws, Metcalf’s name would have been plastered across every major sports news website in the country.

The preseason is the perfect time to work on these types of near misses. Hopefully, whatever wrinkles are keeping those deep passes from being completed will be ironed out come Week 1 of the regular season.

Metcalf was Seattle’s third selection in this year’s draft, but he arguably has the highest expectations of any rookie on the team. His fan hype soured after a freakish combine, and Seattle seems like the perfect landing place. With Doug Baldwin gone, the team is looking for someone to come in and be an immediate weapon for Wilson.
