NFL Power Rankings 2019: Patriots get Josh Gordon, Chargers lose Derwin James

21. Denver Broncos (19) – Play Monday vs. 49ers
Without question, the Denver Broncos made the right choice this offseason by moving on from Case Keenum after only one year since the veteran quarterback turned out to be a complete bust for the team last year.
As for what the future holds at quarterback, while Joe Flacco appears to be the short-term answer under center after the Broncos acquired the former Super Bowl MVP from the Baltimore Ravens, all eyes on Monday will be on rookie Drew Lock to see how he looks.
Like most rookies, Lock seems like he’s going to be a work in progress for Denver over the next year or so, but at least it was great to see the rookie complete 17 of 28 passes for 180 yards to go along with a touchdown last week against the Seattle Seahawks.
With the Broncos hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Lock should be able to post similar numbers, as this will be another solid test to see where he stands in the middle of August.
Beating out Flacco for the starting job is obviously a long shot for Lock at the moment, but if the veteran happens to struggle early on, Denver most likely wouldn’t hesitate to make the switch.
The sooner Lock receives that necessary experience as a starter, the quicker he’ll become the kind of quarterback the Broncos need for the future.
