19. Carolina Panthers (20)

Thanks to their impressive 6-2 start last season, the Carolina Panthers seemed to be a lock for at least a Wild Card spot in the NFC before it all fell apart the final eight games.

To top the pressure off to turn things around in 2019, the Panthers are continuing to play it safe with Cam Newton and his shoulder, as these next few weeks could be crucial when it comes to determining whether he will be able to play in Week 1.

Then again, even if Newton is healthy enough to play that first game against the Los Angeles Rams, there will still be some concerns over the Panthers quarterback looking a bit rusty.

Does that mean Carolina would feel confident enough in being able to rely on one of their backup options if Newton were unable to go during that first game in September?

Kyle Allen may not have looked all that sharp when facing the Buffalo Bills after completing just 4 of 11 passes for 32 yards, but at least Taylor Heinicke (8 of 12 for 78 yards with a touchdown) and Will Grier (10 of 19 for 75 yards) looked somewhat decent.

Still, it’s no secret that Carolina’s best chance of competing will come down to Newton’s health status with his shoulder, so here’s to hoping there’s better progress made during this final stretch.
