NFL Power Rankings 2019: Patriots get Josh Gordon, Chargers lose Derwin James

28. New York Jets (30)
Unlike most teams with their quarterback situation, the New York Jets have been trying to use preseason to their advantage to help Sam Darnold continue to develop under center.
For the most part, Darnold looked pretty solid during the team’s win over the Atlanta Falcons after completing 5 of 7 passes for 46 yards, and after gaining some experience as a rookie in 2018, this should benefit the Jets in a big way.
After years filled with plenty of frustration at the quarterback position, New York seems to have finally found their answer in Darnold, and all eyes will be on the former USC star to see if he has what it takes to make the Jets a surprise contender during the 2019 season.
Of course, if this is going to have any chance of happening, Darnold is going to need all of the extra help possible from his teammates on offense, one of which could be Ty Montgomery.
New York seemed confident enough in signing Montgomery in the offseason to provide another weapon to work with on offense, and while one preseason game doesn’t determine what will take place in the fall, it was great to see him perform well against the Falcons.
Finding the end zone on top of seven carries for 36 rushing yards is just one of many examples of what Montgomery could bring to the table during his first year with the Jets.
Even if Le’Veon Bell sees most of the action, just having Montgomery will help take some of the pressure off in the backfield.
