We’re now halfway through the preseason. As fans look toward the regular season, players are trying to lock down roster spots.

We finally got to see some significant game action from the Seattle Seahawks starters. It was just enough to give us a taste of what regular season football will be like. While the starters captivated viewers, the game meant the most to players battling for depth chart positioning and roster spots.

The Seahawks are coming off of an impressive 10-6 season where they surprised critics and experts alike. While the regular season was highlighted by the top rushing game in the NFL, Seattle fell short in the Wild Card round. While it was a quick exit, Seattle flashed potential that caused expectations for the team to rise this season.

However, Sunday night’s performance wasn’t so inspiring. The Seahawks lost 25-19 to the Minnesota Vikings. While a few Seahawks did perform well, Seattle was unable to halt Minnesota’s offense.

3. Austin Calitro, LB

Austin Calitro has found himself in a bit of an uncomfortable spot. While he entered the NFL in 2017, his first game action didn’t come until this past season. The former undrafted free agent started five games for the Seahawks last season because of injuries. It was the high point in Calitro’s short career.

Now, he’s being pushed down the depth chart by the emergence of rookie third round pick, Cody Barton.

The Seahawks also have other young linebackers on the roster, like Ben Burr-Kirven and Shaquem Griffin. While Calitro was able to make an impact with the Seahawks last season, his future with the team is uncertain.

That’s why his nine tackles were so important last night. He led both teams in that category and has to hope that his performances will be enough to keep him around in Seattle for the 2019 season.
