Green Bay Packers: 5 Players with something to prove vs. Raiders
As the Green Bay Packers head to Canada to take on the Raiders in Week 3 of the 2019 preseason, these players have something left to prove.
Both the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders have traveled north of the border to Winnipeg for an international meeting in Week 3 of the 2019 NFL preseason. As the dress rehearsal week of the preseason, the Packers have a lot to put on display this week — and not just Aaron Rodgers‘ glorious Canadian tuxedo.
Speaking of Rodgers, it’s still uncertain if he’ll suit up in Canada on Thursday night against the Raiders. And while we may see more starters this week, the preseason remains about battles for roster spots and positioning on the depth chart. With two more exhibition contests remaining, there is still plenty left to be decided.
A big performance in the dress rehearsal preseason game can certainly change things in that regard. Having that in mind, these are five Green Bay Packers that have something to prove against the Raiders on Thursday night.
5. Dexter Williams, RB
The hierarchy of the running back depth chart seems to be relatively clear for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Jones has the starting job locked down and Jamaal Williams should be written in as the backup at this point. However, Dexter Williams should continue to make his case for the third running back on the roster — and perhaps as the primary backup to Jones.
Williams, a 2019 sixth-round pick from Notre Dame, has out-performed Tra Carson to this point. He has 17 carries for 67 yards, two receptions for 22 yards and has been one of the standouts in training camp practices as well, even if it has been up and down at times.
The talent of Dexter Williams is clear. But if he’s able to put forth a strong effort running against the Oakland defense in Week 3 of the preseason, he could ultimately solidify his role in the offense and, more pressingly, on the final roster.
