The Cleveland Browns travel to Tampa to face the Bucs but, with the starters playing, which players have something to prove for Freddie Kitchens’ team?

On Friday evening in primetime, the Cleveland Browns hype train again leaves the station as they head to Raymond James Stadium to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 of the 2019 preseason. And, save for Odell Beckham Jr., new head coach Freddie Kitchens is going to use the dress rehearsal game to get a look at his starters.

That means we’re going to have a look at key players like Baker Mayfield, Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb and plenty of others on Friday night against the Bucs. If this group performs to their capabilities, the buzz around this team could well reach fever-pitch. They’re already AFC North favorites but the Super Bowl whispers might persist and even grow.

While it’ll be exciting to see the starters on the field for the Browns on Friday night, though, this is the preseason after all. That means there are still players fighting for roster spots and for their position on the depth chart. Subsequently, there are players in Cleveland that have a lot to prove.

So we’re going to dive into those players. Let’s take a look at five Cleveland Browns with something to prove on Friday night against the Buccaneers.

5. Greedy Williams, CB

Greedy Williams undoubtedly isn’t fighting for a roster spot. The Browns first selection in the 2019 draft (a second-round pick), the rookie out of LSU should be considered the future of the cornerback position in Cleveland. What question he faces entering this crucial third week of the preseason, though, is if he’s truly ready to be a day-one starting corner in this defense.

There have been times in the preseason and in camp when Williams has looked the part of a potential lockdown player on the outside. At the same time, though, he has experienced his share of growing pains. With veteran players battling him for the starting job at cornerback, a strong performance against an explosive Tampa Bay receiving corps could lock in Williams as a starter for the Browns.
