With the regular season quickly closing in, the focus for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 of the preseason will be on depth chart and position battles.

The Seattle Seahawks have a chance to be a very good team in 2019. Just last season they lost to the eventual NFC champion Los Angeles Rams twice by a combined seven points. However, Seattle has endured a lot of changes this offseason.

Between signing Ezekiel Ansah, trading Frank Clark, drafting L.J. Collier and Jarran Reed‘s six-game suspension, the defensive line has been all over the place. Similarly, the Seahawks drafted three wide receivers after long-time leader Doug Baldwin failed his physical and was released. The team has also added multiple new quarterbacks who are competing to back up Russell Wilson.

A large amount of turnover at the three previously mentioned positions means certain players will be cut while others will be relegated to low depth chart positions. As the regular season draws nearer, practices and preseason games have become even more important for the following three players.

Between questions, injuries, and suspensions, any number of defensive line combinations could appear in Week 1 of the regular season for the Seahawks. Green is one of the players in the mix for some rotational playing time.

The Seahawks selected Green with their second pick in the 2018 draft. I thought he might see a good number of snaps last season, seeing as Quinton Jefferson was in the starting lineup. That wasn’t the case. Green did appear in ten games, but he only mustered nine combined tackles and one sack. Now, amongst the turnover and chaos, Green has another shot at earning playing time.

Green has seven tackles through the first two weeks of the preseason. While it’s good to see he’s making his presence felt, some sack production would go a long way to catching the coaching staff’s attention. Again, with Clark gone and Reed suspended, the Seahawks are looking to get sacks from wherever they can. If you can get to the quarterback, you’ll see the field more often.
