WR Keelan Doss

Keelan Doss leads the Raiders in receptions (11) and yards (99) through three preseason games—seven of those catches led to first downs.

Among Raiders wide receivers in a tight battle for spots behind Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow, Doss took the field and stood out Thursday. He had an eye-opening grab with a toe-tap near the sideline midway through the fourth quarter.

Doss dropped a pass that may have resulted in a touchdown, but he finished with four receptions for 52 yards.

Ryan Grant and J.J. Nelson didn’t suit up against the Packers; the latter sprained his ankle in the previous outing with the Arizona Cardinals. Doss may have an inside track over both veterans for the No. 4 wide receiver spot. He’s had flashes in all three games following a strong showing on the practice field through training camp.

After the game, Gruden commented on Doss’ knowledge of the game, pointing out his ability to play all three wide receiver positions. Because of the playbook complexity, the undrafted rookie’s ability to rotate into different roles bodes well for his long-term outlook.

The Raiders seems to have a feel-good story on their hands. Doss went to Alameda High School, and he’ll have an opportunity to play one full season in Oakland.
