As we finally saw some action from Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, 23-15, in Week 3 of the preseason.

After numerous starters were injured for other teams the Seattle Seahawks decided to play some of their key players anyway. Week 3 of the preseason has been the time for teams to let their starters play a few series against actual opponents. Despite multiple teams resting their best players, Seattle still put Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner on the field.

Undoubtedly, the news of Andrew Luck‘s retirement ruled the night. No preseason game, nor the Florida-Miami college football matchup could detract from the four-time Pro Bowler’s sudden departure from the NFL. Luck was the first quarterback taken in the 2012 NFL Draft. Wilson was the sixth, and he now reigns undisputed as the best quarterback from that draft class.

Even though Luck’s decision will be the main, if not the sole, focus of the media today, some Seahawks performed at a praiseworthy level last night.

C.J. Prosise, RB

The Seahawks have as many as five or six running backs/fullbacks who are legitimate contenders to land spots behind Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny. Prosise is among that group, but he doesn’t exactly have a great track record. While his put together the most impressive rushing performance for the Seahawks last night with five carries for 32 yards and a touchdown, it still might not be enough to secure a roster spot.

Seattle drafted Prosise out of Notre Dame in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The plan was the get the young running back involved at some point. Prosise saw limited snaps as a rookie, but he did average 5.7 yards per attempt. He finished 2016 with 172 rushing yards and 208 receiving yards.

Unfortunately for Prosise, injuries derailed his career from there. He was placed on injured reserve (IR) in both 2017 and 2018. Last season, he carried the ball one time for -3 yards before being sidelined. It’s hard to justify keeping an injury-prone runner like Prosise around when Seattle has other players who could be productive at the position.

At age 25, Prosise is still a young running back with potential. However, the Seahawks have drafted players like Carson, Travis Homer, and Penny over the last three years. That doesn’t even include J.D. McKissic or Bo Scarbrough. While Prosise’s Week 3 performance proved he still has life, he only has an outside shot at making the final roster.
