Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 Standouts vs. Titans in Preseason Week 3
By Samuel Teets
1. Tuzar Skipper and Robert Spillane, LB
It’s getting hard to ignore Tuzar Skipper. The undrafted rookie from Toledo has been making plays every week. He has recorded a sack every week of the preseason and has consistently been high up the box score when it comes to tackles.
With just over 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Skipper strip-sacked Logan Woodside and the Steelers recovered the fumble. While Pittsburgh has a deep group of linebackers, Skipper has built up a strong case for making the roster. It’ll be hard for the team to cut him after so many successful outings.
Skipper wasn’t the only linebacker making plays for the Steelers though. Ulysees Gilbert III did not record a sack against the Titans, but he did finish with five combined tackles. Tegray Scales, a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Indiana, got in on the action and picked up a sack. Starter, Vince Williams also recorded a sack.
The other major contributing linebacker was Robert Spillane. The former Western Michigan linebacker went undrafted in 2018. After spending a short amount of time with the Titans last year, he’s now fighting for a spot on the Steelers. Spillane finished the Week 3 matchup tied as Pittsburgh’s leading tackler with Gilbert. He had five tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss on the night.
