John Ursua, WR

The Seahawks traded back up into the seventh round of the draft just to pick Ursua. The Hawaii product isn’t your typical NFL wide receiver.  He’s only 5-9, 182 pounds. However, Ursua was highly productive in college. With the Hawaii, Ursua posted 89 receptions, 1,343 receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns in his final collegiate season.

Ursua led the Seahawks in receiving yards against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 of the preseason. He hasn’t had a very notable preseason. So far, he has four receptions for 100 yards through the first three games. It’s hard to find a role in the receiving game for Ursua to play. He seems to offer a little bit of everything, but the Seahawks have bigger players, with better draft pedigree, who can also fill those roles.

In all likelihood, Ursua will be headed for the practice squad after the final preseason game. Even without Doug Baldwin, the Seahawks have a lot of roster worthy receivers on their team. As a low-round rookie, Ursua is a prime candidate for the practice squad.

However, a lot has yet to be settled with Seattle’s receivers. Jazz Ferguson and Keenan Reynolds are recognizable names that could conceivably make or not make the team. Amara Darboh was recently waived in favor of two undrafted rookies in Kahlil Lewis and Nyqwan Murray.

In this mass of players, it would be beneficial for Ursua to make one big, final statement before the end of the preseason. Differentiating himself from the other back half of the roster receivers can only help his career.
