Chicago Bears: 5 Breakout players set to shine in 2019
The Chicago Bears have high hopes for 2019. If these five players have breakout seasons and shine, this could be a super season.
The NFL’s 2019 season is at our doorstep. In just over a week, the Chicago Bears face the hated Green Bay Packers in the opening game of the season. The Bears have high hopes for the season. They had a magical 2018 season and hope to build on that success. The front office worked hard to strengthen the roster so the team makes a long playoff run.
General manager Ryan Pace made some bold moves to improve the roster. He’s known to not be shy on pulling the trigger on moves many consider controversial. When he sees a player he thinks could help the team he’ll go all out to get him.
If that means moving up one spot and give up draft capital to grab a quarterback or make one of the biggest deals in franchise history to acquire a game-changing linebacker, Pace isn’t afraid of what other people think about the move.
This offseason, Pace replaced three popular starters. He traded away running back Jordan Howard, who, in addition to being a fan favorite, broke rushing records in his three seasons in Chicago. That’s saying a lot with all the legendary running backs the Bears have had.
Pace also tinkered with the elite, dominant defense. He allowed cornerback Bryce Callahan and safety Adrian Amos to walk away through free agency. Considering how great the defense was in 2018, having starters go away is a risk. Add in a new defensive coordinator and you have many saying that the defense will regress in 2019.
While many of us have opinions on the results of those moves, that is exactly what they are — opinions. We’ll know more for sure on Sept. 5 when the curtains open on the season. In the meantime, let’s take a look at five players who are set to shine in 2019. If these players do, this could be a super season.
