Allen Robinson, Wide Receiver

In the offseason of 2018, Ryan Pace loaded the team with weapons for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. He overhauled the wide receivers corps, a unit that was the worst in football the previous season. He got rid of almost everyone and he hit free agency and went through the draft for help.

The prize piece of the overhaul was former Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson. In 2015, he had 1,400 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Doing that with Blake Bortles as your quarterback is extraordinary.

Robinson wasn’t able to repeat that performance in 2016, having only 883 yards and six touchdown catches. In 2017, he was ready to recapture the success of 2015 but suffered a knee injury in the opening game and missed the rest of the season.

The Bears felt Robinson could get back to his 2015 form and signed him to a three-year, $42 million deal. He had an okay season, recording 754 yards and scoring four touchdowns, but it wasn’t what everyone expected from the top wide receiver. He was still rehabbing in the offseason and wasn’t 100 percent during the season. As a result of overcompensating for his knee, he suffered a groin injury and missed two games because of it.

While his regular season wasn’t what was expected, Robinson showed what he could do when fully healthy in the playoffs. He had 10 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown in the game. That is what the team and fans expected from him.

Robinson finally spent the entire offseason working on having a better feel of the offense and getting on the same page as Trubisky. He didn’t have to worry about rehabbing anything. He enters the 2019 season fully healthy and ready to regain his 2015 form. If he does, the offense could be piling on the points even more in 2019 than it did in 2018 when it ranked ninth in points.
