Tough division

A big part of the Bears’ success last season was the way they performed against the other three teams in the NFC North.

Chicago found a way to come out with five wins in their six matchups against the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. Divisional games are typically some of the toughest matchups each team has on their schedule every year and for the Bears to only lose one of these contests in 2018, it said a lot about how legitimate their success was last season.

However, expecting Chicago to dominate the NFC North in 2019 like they did last season may be asking a little too much.

After the Bears finished atop the division last year, the top priority of the other three teams in the NFC North this season will be to make sure Chicago doesn’t win the division in back-to-back years.

Both the Packers and Vikings are expected to perform better in 2019 than they did last season and this should make it more difficult for the Bears to come out with wins in these matchups.

A victory over the Lions is no guarantee for Chicago this year either. Prior to 2018, the Bears were 1-9 in their last 10 games against Detroit.

If the Bears are going to maintain their level of success in 2019, then it’s likely going to take another strong performance in their matchups with their fellow members of the NFC North.
