The Dallas Cowboys have completed the preseason and it’s time for 53-man roster cuts but which players could surprisingly end up on the wrong side of cuts?

On Thursday night, the Dallas Cowboys hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their final game of the 2019 NFL preseason. While it was a losing effort, the final exhibition game of the year isn’t about the result. Instead, it’s about Jason Garrett, Jerry and Stephen Jones and the rest of the Cowboys decision-makers trying to fill out the rest of the 53-man roster.

There have been plenty of black clouds hanging over the Cowboys preseason and training camp to this point, most importantly the continuing Ezekiel Elliott holdout. The running back is on track to miss regular season games as Dallas tries to work out a new contract with the Ohio State product.

The good news is that Elliott’s absence has opened the door for rookie Tony Pollard to shine and really alleviate any concern about the running game should the star running back indeed miss significant time.

Of course, the Cowboys also have other contracts that they’ve been working on as well, inking linebacker Jaylon Smith to a new extension while negotiating with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper. But even with all of these closed-door talks, the play on the field has been impressive.

One thing that has stood out throughout the preseason in Dallas is the fact that the Cowboys are an exceptionally deep team. They may have one of the most complete rosters in the NFL. The key for their success, though, is making the right decisions when it comes time to trim the roster down to 53 players.

As fate would have it, that time is now after the final preseason contest and with the deadline being at 4:00 p.m. ET on Aug. 31. Subsequently, these five players could wind up on the wrong side of the Dallas Cowboys 53-man cut line.
