The Miami Dolphins announced that Ryan Fitzpatrick, not Josh Rosen, will be starting Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Instead of finding a potential quarterback to build the franchise around during April’s draft, the Miami Dolphins were able to pull off a surprise move this offseason by acquiring Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals.
Despite previously signing Ryan Fitzpatrick to help fill the void left by Ryan Tannehill after the Dolphins traded their former quarterback to the Tennessee Titans, the decision to acquire Rosen was smart from a long-term perspective.
A quarterback like Fitzpatrick may only have a few good years remaining in him since the veteran isn’t getting any younger, and will turn 37 later this year in November, meaning once he’s out of the picture, Rosen’s time would come.
With that being said, one of the most popular topics of discussion over the last couple of weeks has been whether the Dolphins would be better off going with Rosen over Fitzpatrick during the 2019 season.
Turns out, Miami will be going with Fitzpatrick under center to kick off the new season next Sunday when the Dolphins face a difficult challenge in the Baltimore Ravens with Rosen watching from the sidelines as a backup.
This may not be what Rosen had in mind when he was traded to Miami after the Arizona Cardinals decided to give up on him after only one season to make room for Kyler Murray, but hopefully Miami will quickly realize they are making a mistake.
All due respect to Fitzpatrick, the Dolphins will most likely regret their decision to start the new season off with the veteran over Rosen, and here are three reasons to back the claim up.
