Now we’re getting to the dynasties.

The Pittsburgh Steelers went 193-148-1 with Chuck Noll at the helm. From 1974 to 1979, they won four Super Bowl championships and appeared in one more AFC Championship game.

It was a streak made possible by Noll’s coaching style, but also by the skill of his players; three players in particular.

Terry Bradshaw had more Super Bowl rings than Pro Bowl berths, but still, he headed the Steelers offense with a steady arm and a consistent approach. He was helped by Franco Harris, who was the beating heart of the Steelers rushing attack, and Lynn Swann, whose propensity for big plays took Pittsburgh over the top when the team needed it.

All three players, in addition to Noll, are Pro Football Hall of Famers. They consisted of the core that helped Pittsburgh enjoy such consistent and unfettered success in the 1970s. There are very few true dynasties in NFL history. This is one of them. There are more, of course.
