Jazz Ferguson, WR

Jazz Ferguson only caught one pass against the Raiders, but it went for a game-high 41 yards. You have to remember, the Seahawks only completed five passes all game long and no player had more than one. That in itself is notable, but so was Ferguson leaving us with one final big play in the preseason.

With 9:44 left in the second quarter, Smith launched a deep pass that turned into a jump ball between Ferguson and the defensive back. The 6-5 undrafted rookie climbed the ladder and plucked the ball out of the air. Had the throw been more in front of, he might have been able to add some yards after the catch or even score a touchdown.

Ferguson has seven receptions, 119 yards and a touchdown this preseason. If he doesn’t make Seattle’s 53-man roster, then he’ll be a prime candidate for the practice squad. It’s hard to overlook Ferguson’s physical traits and preseason production though. At the very least, he has an outside shot of sticking around in Seattle.

The Seahawks have a wealth of wide receivers right now, which isn’t something I thought I’d be saying back in March. Ferguson, Terry Wright, and Keenan Reynolds all saw action on Thursday, but they could all be cut by the end of the weekend. It’s a shame, considering there are other teams in the league where those guys might stick.

Seattle already has three rookie receivers to go along with Tyler Lockett and other veterans like Jaron Brown and David Moore. That doesn’t mean the team won’t find room for a player like Ferguson, but that would require parting ways with a more experienced player.
