New York Giants shouldn’t start Daniel Jones at all in 2019 season

Putting on the Pressure

If Daniel Jones was to start at any point in the season, it would put immense pressure on him, regardless of what others might think. He is playing for the “New York Football Giants” and that itself adds pressure for any quarterback who plays for them.

In a New York media market that is ready to criticize, rip apart, and even roast a player at a second’s notice, having Jones out there would put unnecessary pressure on him at such an early part in his career.

Even when he is ready, that New York media won’t hesitate to jump on him. Still, hearing the media talk about a player in a negative light so early in their career can have an effect, even for a guy as even-keel as Jones.

Keeping him out the limelight his rookie year will help him focus on learning what he needs to learn. Also, if he was to start, he would be coming in behind Eli Manning who is the greatest quarterback in Giants history.

Even though Manning has been bad (almost very bad) the last couple of seasons, he looks revitalized and ready to finish out his career with the G-Men strong. We saw how it turned out when he was benched a couple of years ago in the regular season (it wasn’t pretty).

Now the circumstances are different, but it would only add more pressure if Jones was put in as a result of Eli being benched. Many would expect him to fill the big shoes Eli left, and that isn’t fair for a rookie QB.

Even if Manning is playing poorly, let Jones learn from those mistakes and let him see what not to do instead of throwing him in the fire. It is clearly Manning’s team for one more season (at the least), so let him enjoy what could be the last season of him being the head honcho of the offense. Throwing Jones to the wolves after a bad Eli performance won’t make the season any better, and they could ruin their future franchise quarterback because of it.

Let Jones Learn

If the New York Giants were smart and actually serious about Jones being the future of the team, they wouldn’t start him in 2019. Let the man learn and groom him into becoming the starter quarterback. We see how that worked out with the Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback Patricks Mahomes (he started the last game of his rookie year, but you get the point).

There is no need to rush him into the starting role as Eli Manning looks like he will be at least decent this year. Even if he is below average, giving Jones the starting job won’t make the season any less dreadful. It seems like Gettleman and the G-Men have something good going with Daniel Jones, but starting him in 2019 could possibly ruin not only Jones but the Giants’ future as a franchise.
