Here are three reasons the Dallas Cowboys will regret not giving in to Ezekiel Elliott’s contract demands leading up to Week 1.

As much as Dallas Cowboys don’t want to talk about the fact that Ezekiel Elliott is still missing in action with the start of Week 1 officially underway, it should be viewed as a huge concern.

When Elliott first didn’t show up to training camp for the Cowboys while holding out for a new contract, most fans assumed it wouldn’t last too long since one side seemed likely to give in at some point.

Instead, Dallas continues to prepare for their first battle of the season against the New York Giants, and Elliott’s timetable to potentially return is still up in the air, as the two sides seem nowhere near reaching a new deal.

From Elliott’s perspective, it’s easy to understand why the former Ohio State star is pushing so hard for a new contract since he’s clearly one of the top running backs in the league, and deserves to be paid like one.

But no matter what case Elliott tries to make, Jerry Jones and company continue to refuse to give in, leaving plenty of questions for the Cowboys entering the new season.

Does Dallas have what it takes to continue to be a major threat in the NFC without Elliott if his holdout lasts deep into the regular season?
