The Dallas Cowboys cut their roster down to 53 and had to let 37 players go to do so, but these three should not have been part of those who were let go

In order to meet the 53-man roster requirement by Saturday’s 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, the Dallas Cowboys ended up trimming 37 players — according to their official website.

These cuts are never easy for the decision-makers and fans often find themselves lamenting the loss of a player they grew to love in the preseason. We have seen examples with guys such as quarterback Matt Moore back in 2007 and Danny Amendola in 2008.

When these players were let go, the fans in Big D weren’t too pleased, and they let that be known via social media.

And oftentimes, those fans who felt as though their guy should have been kept were right. With all that being said, we look at three players who Dallas decided to pass on that they should have kept around.

Questionable: Jalen Jelks, Defensive End

Right now, the Cowboys defensive end group is pretty stacked. Even with Robert Quinn suspended for two games, they have some studs who made the roster in DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Kerry Hyder, Dorrance Armstrong, Taco Charlton, and Joe Jackson.

For that reason, it was understandable that they parted ways with seventh-round pick Jalen Jelks. It still wasn’t an easy one to swallow as Jelks proved to be a solid fit in Rod Marinelli’s defense.

He finished the preseason with five tackles and a sack and could potentially still be around after waiver claims are made. If so, he should be added to the practice squad right away.
