One team that made some confusing moves this offseason was the New York Giants. Forget the drafting of Daniel Jones at No. 6 overall, the real question is what they were thinking with the Odell Beckham, Jr. trade.

Being fair, they’re not the first team to trade a star wideout and they did get a decent haul — although their selection at No. 17 also had some questions. The problem though was the fact that they had just signed OBJ to a massive extension in 2018.

Not only that, but general manager Dave Gettelman refuted rumors of a move being discussed and insisted that the team didn’t give the wideout that deal just to trade him away. Then this offseason, he traded him away.

Again, teams do thins but usually before — not after — giving their young stars a new deal. Gettleman has operated in odd ways since taking over the New York GM job but can atone for some of that if he is proven right about the quarterback he took in Jones, and if he can get him some new offensive weapons.

Here, he goes for one of those weapons as they select Tee Higgins out of Clemson. Higgins is a big target at 6-foot-4 and had 12 touchdowns for the Tigers a season ago. He started out strong in 2019 as well and could sneak into the top portion of the first round if he keeps that up.
