2020 NFL Mock Draft: Colts luck into new quarterback, Dolphins start future
By Randy Gurzi
One of the surprises of the 2019 NFL Draft was the late news that Derrick Brown decided to return to Auburn for his senior season. The massive defensive tackle came off a 48 tackle campaign which also saw him record 4.5 sacks. Now with another season to work on his skill-set, Brown goes from a late first-round pick to a top-15 player.
Here, he joins the Denver Broncos, a team that is built to win on the strength of their defense. Already armed with Von Miller and Bradly Chubb on the edges, the Broncos get even nastier up front by adding the 6-foot-5, 318-pound lineman. Of course, that imposing size makes it seem as though Brown is simply a powerful player, but that’s not the case.
Dan Schmelzer of NFL Mocks says that Brown also possesses great athleticism and a quick first step.
"“Brown uses a quick first step to gain an immediate advantage over the opposing offensive lineman. He consistently puts the opposing offensive lineman in uncomfortable situations, gaining ground quickly with a good upfield burst. Brown also shows very good hand usage both as a run defender and a pass rusher. He has strong hands and places them well to keep opposing blockers off of his body.” — Schmelzer, NFL Mocks"
A great defense gets even better here and the Broncos could become a serious threat should thir offensive moves in the 2019 draft pay off.
