There’s an old saying that if you have two quarterbacks, you really have none. The Tennessee Titans traded for Ryan Tannehill from the Miami Dolphins with the intention of having him back up Marcus Mariota. Both are former first-round picks, with Tannehill being selected at No. 8 overall out of Texas A&M in 2012 and Mariota going second to the Titans out of Oregon.

So far in his career, Mariota has struggled to find any consistency whatsoever and enters this year with a losing record for his career. Right now, he sits at 27-28 as a starter but even more concerning has been his injury history. Tannehill is in the same boat as he too has a losing record at 42-46 and has durability concerns.

All that is said to highlight the fact that the Titans have two quarterbacks capable of starting in the NFL, but none who have proven to be franchise leaders. That’s why they decide to turn the page in this 2020 NFL Mock Draft as they grab Jacob Eason from Washington.

A former Georgia Bulldog, Eason lost his job to Jake Fromm in 2017 and had to sit out last year after transferring to the Huskies program. In his debut, he fared well, going 27-of-36 with 349 yards and four touchdowns.

He’ll have another season of eligibility after 2019 but should he continue to perform at such a level, it would make sense to strike while the iron is hot. And for the Titans, it would make sense to cut their losses and start with a new signal-caller.
