. Center. Wisconsin. Tyler Biadasz. 24. player. 55

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t spent a first-round pick on an offensive player since 2012 when they took guard David DeCastro out of Stanford. Two years before that, they took center Maurkice Pouncey from Florida, but other than those picks, it’s been all about defense for the Steelers.

And for the most part, those picks have all been solid. Some of the selections included Cameron Heyward, Bud Dupree, and T.J. Watt who are all still big parts of the team. They also had Ryan Shazier as well, who was one of the best in the game before suffering a horrific neck injury.

Their most recent selection was Devin Bush, the linebacker from Michigan who has the tools to be their best at the position since Shazier. After landing him, they feel much more confident about the state of their defense which allows them to go back to the offensive side of the ball. And as they did the last two times they selected an offensive player, they go with an interior lineman.

Tyler Biadasz is the best prospect at either the guard or center position. With the Steelers, he could help them get younger in front of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. By the time this pick is made, the youngest interior lineman for the Steelers will have turned 30 years old, as DeCastro enters this season at 29. The other two are already over 30, with Pouncey turning that age this past July and Ramon Foster entering the year at 33.

Biadasz is a highly-touted prospect coming from a school that turns out offensive linemen at an incredible rate. Adding him to the Steel City allows them to keep one of the strengths of their team functioning at a high level for many more years to come.
