2020 NFL Mock Draft: Colts luck into new quarterback, Dolphins start future
By Randy Gurzi
Nothing made as much news as the shocking retirement decision made by Andrew Luck with just two weeks left before the start of the regular season. Luck decided to call it quits as he was just unable to remain healthy and it was taking a toll on him.
The former No. 1 overall pick now gives way to Jacoby Brissett, who the coaching staff is all in on. Or at least, they’re saying they are — but then again, what else are they supposed to say?
There’s some truth to Brissett being a good option. He does have 17 career starts under his belt and is easily one of the better backups in the league. Having said that, being one of the better backups doesn’t make him a franchise quarterback. Not only that, but he’s still just 5-12 as a starter, including a 4-11 mark in 2017 when he filled in for an injured Luck.
With his lack of success that season being a barometer, Indianapolis ends up drafting early here and they luck into yet another potentially elite quarterback as Justin Herbert is still on the board.
Herbert was in the discussion for the first overall pick in 2018 but then decided to return for his senior season as he wanted to play with his brother, who joined the Ducks as a freshman this season. That ends up being good for the Colts as they happily snatch him up here.
