2020 NFL Mock Draft: Colts luck into new quarterback, Dolphins start future
By Randy Gurzi
In 2018, the San Francisco 49ers were a dark horse team — or was it a favorite? With so many pundits choosing them as a team to look out for, it was hard to tell where exactly this team stood.
With John Lynch in charge as the general manager, it seemed as though everyone wanted to believe in him. An easy guy to root for, Lynch was praised for many of the moves he was making, although a lot of those have turned out to be questionable.
Take the 2017 NFL Draft for example. Their moves to take Solomon Thomas as Reuben Foster in the first round seemed to be a great move and no one came out bashing it. However, we fast forward to 2019 and Foster is long gone and Thomas has been so bad that they had to draft Joey Bosa and trade for Dee Ford to play the position Thomas couldn’t fill.
On top of that, Lynch and the 49ers continue to trot out a secondary that’s unimpressive. Here, they try to address that with the selection of Bryce Hall from Virginia, who will quickly become their best coverage corner.
While his addition will surely help, the fate of Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan rest squarely on the shoulders of Jimmy Garoppolo, who happens to be another highly-touted Niner without a lot on his resume to fall back on.
