The Dallas Cowboys start their NFC East title defense against the New York Giants in Week 1 and have a few questions to answer about the 2019 season

All the talk about the Dallas Cowboys since their 2018 campaign ended has been about contracts. There was the extension for defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence that got contentious for a while before being solved, the holdout of running back Ezekiel Elliott, and the unexpected new deals given to linebacker Jaylon Smith and tackle La’el Collins.

This is without even looking at the expiring contracts of quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver Amari Cooper and cornerback Byron Jones. Both Cooper and Prescott have had their negotiations go public as each wants to be paid among the best at their respective positions but so far, nothing major has been reported about Jones.

It’s not just players needing to land new deals though. Head coach Jason Garrett enters this season on the last year of a five-year extension he filed after the 2014 season. Garrett, who has been the coach since midway through the 2010 season, has yet to advance past the Divisional Round of the playoffs and the front office believes the lack of security could light a fire under him.
