Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks hope to make a statement in Week 1 as they welcome the Cincinnati Bengals to town. All the info you need to know.

The Seattle Seahawks made a splash entering the 2019 NFL season as they drastically improved their defense. Pete Carroll’s team traded for star pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney to help answer a need on the edge. In Week 1, Clowney will be on the field for Seattle as they welcome the Cincinnati Bengals to CenturyLink Field.

Russell Wilson got his payday this offseason from the Seahawks and now looks to lead the charge but with a new group of pass-catchers. In the wake of Doug Baldwin’s retirement, it’ll be Tyler Lockett and rookie D.K. Metcalf taking up the load at wide receiver.

The good news for Seattle, though, is that they are not a team that’s going to be throwing the ball a ton. Chris Carson and the rushing attack figure to be their bread and butter again, as does their defense with the aforementioned Clowney. And though Jarran Reed is suspended to start the year, the horses are still there for this team to scare opposing offenses.

On the flipside, there’s not much about the Bengals that scares people. Not only was Andy Dalton’s team not expected to do much this season anyway, but they’ve already been ravaged by injuries. Rookie offensive tackle Jonah Williams is done for the year while A.J. Green remains out due to injury as well. And with turnover on the defensive unit, this team could struggle quite a bit.

Point Spread: Seahawks -9.5

(Odds per Bovada)

For this matchup, the Seahawks are going to win. They are the vastly superior team in this matchup. However, the point spread gives me a little pause because it’s so high. My lack of faith in the Bengals, though, makes me lean towards Seattle still against the spread and with the moneyline. I’m taking the under as they’ll bleed clock running the all for much of the game.

In the interest of being honest, this shouldn’t be much of a close game. The Bengals might be the worst team in football if not for the Dolphins shipping out all of their good players while the Seahawks are a fringe playoff team. Having said that, football is still back and that’s more than enough reason to tune in for Week 1.
