Nick Foles brought a ton of hope for the Jacksonville Jaguars offense but the quarterback left the Week 1 game with an injury against the Chiefs.

Week 1 brought new life and new hope for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the form of quarterback Nick Foles. The team replaced Blake Bortles with the former Super Bowl MVP in free agency this offseason, signing him to a four-year, $88 million deal. However, things have gotten off to a bad start.

Foles did open up with a solid effort in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs, including a 36-yard touchdown pass to second-year receiver D.J. Chark. On the play, though, Foles took a big hit after the throw and was driven into the ground.

After the hit, the Jaguars quarterback popped up and went straight to the locker room. It didn’t take long after that before the CBS broadcast announced that Nick Foles would be out for the rest of the game with a shoulder injury.

You can see the play where the quarterback was injured below:

At this point, there are no specifics regarding Foles’ injury. However, with the immediacy that he left the field with and being ruled out so quickly, things don’t look promising from the early returns.

With Foles out, the Jaguars inserted rookie Gardner Minshew in at quarterback as his replacement. While productive at Washington State, he’s not the proven veteran presence that Foles is, nor does he inspire the confidence in Jacksonville that the free-agent signee does.

If there’s one silver lining, it was Foles’ left shoulder (his non-throwing side) that was driven into the ground. If it is a broken collarbone or something of that ilk, he may be more likely to return quickly since it’s on his non-throwing shoulder.

Regardless, though, he’s out for Week 1 against Kansas City, which puts the Jaguars already behind the 8-ball to start the 2019 season.
