The Dallas Cowboys had a big win over the New York Giants in Week 1. Here are five players who stood out in the victory over their NFC East rival.
All the offseason drama has been put in the rearview as the Dallas Cowboys scored a 35-17 win in the first game of the 2019 season. Hosting the New York Giants, they started out their NFC East title defense with a dominant win.
Dallas fell behind 7-0 early after allowing Saquon Barkley and the Giants to march down the field and score on their first possesion. From there, they took over the game and scored 21 unanswered points to take a 21-7 lead into the half.
They scored two more touchdowns after the Giants knocked in a field goal and then nursed the lead as they watched the clock tick away.
It was about as good of a start as the team could have asked for and it was due to some of their big stars playing to their full potential. Here we look at five of those players who stood out in the big win.
Honorable Mention: Kellen Moore, the tight ends
The Cowboys won the NFC East last season but there were still plenty of reasons to be concerned about them going forward. The main question centered around their play-calling as Scott Linehan struggled mightily in this role.
Fans were relieved to see him and the team part ways and Kellen Moore took his place. In his first game, Moore proved to be quite the upgrade. This offense was nothing like we saw in 2018 as they were willing to throw it early and often.
Moore got several different pass catchers involved, including their two tight ends Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin who each had a touchdown catch. For Jarwin, it continued his run of success against New York, as he had three touchdowns against them in Week 17.
For Witten, it was a great way to kick off his return to football. After spending a year in the broadcast booth, Witten returned and found his way into the end zone for the 69th time in his career. These Cowboys all deserved to mentioned but there were so many good players that they didn’t crack the top five, which we will delve into now.
