1. QB Drew Brees

There was a lot of anticipation heading into Monday night’s game as veteran hurler Drew Brees and his Saints welcomed third-year pro Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans to the Superdome. Could a shootout be in the works between these two talented quarterbacks?

Of course, it wound up being a thriller in the Big Easy. Twice in the game, Sean Payton’s team overcame 11-point deficits. Brees threw for 160 yards and an interception in the first half as his team trailed 14-3 at intermission. But he got hot in the final two quarters.

He would finish the evening with 370 yards and three scores, along with the aforementioned pick, and hit on 16 of his 20 throws in the second half for 210 yards and two touchdowns. With 37 seconds to play and his team down 28-27, he got the football at his own 25-yard line and with three completions, moved the Saints into Wil Lutz’s field-goal range.

For the doubters out there who felt that Brees digressed at the end of 2019, Monday night was certainly some food for thought. Perhaps the theory that the prolific signal-caller wasn’t 100 percent down the stretch makes a little sense. And on Monday night against the Texans, the 19-year performer gave those skeptics something to ponder.
