Welcome to the NFL Notebook for Week 1, a weekly look at the biggest storylines around the league, including awards, fantasy football, NFL Draft and more.

You know my least favorite thing about the NFL’s first weekend? Overreactions. As I tweeted out Monday, at this time last year, Ryan Fitzpatrick had the third-best stats among quarterbacks and Christian McCaffrey was 25th among running backs.

Well, we all know how that ended.

I get it, you spent all this time preparing and waiting for the season to start only for your expectations to be trashed halfway into the game. In the words of the great Aaron Rodgers: “R-E-L-A-X”. That’s NFL Week 1 for you.

As with every game in every season, each one is different. Just because a player didn’t get the ball enough or a team lost by 30 (looking at you, Cleveland), it doesn’t mean the world is ending. Likewise, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about what went well, either. The Titans may be better than most people initially thought, but wait a month or two until you crown them Super Bowl Champions.

With all these overreactions, there is a lot to simply react about. A couple of players caught my eye on Sunday, and you should be watching them, too. Also, was there really another tie? When will this atrocity end?

It was a great weekend and I know I’m not the only one oozing over football’s full return; however, this can’t be a football column without talking about You-Know-Who.

Sit down, grab some popcorn and enjoy the first installment of my NFL Notebook for the 2019 NFL season.
